PORTRAITS FOR LIFE

Artistically Yours… by the French artist Miki

Selfportrait #1: Miki & Mousy

I never was a fan of self-portraits.

Why not?

Well, in fact, I don’ t like to look at me in a mirror!

Why not?

Well, it is a little bit embarassing to answer, but to tell the truth, when I look at myself, I only see the ugly details! I focuse my eyes on them, exactly the way I do when I do a painting. The difference is that I can fix the errors on a paintng, but not on my face or body!

But don’t worry, this doesn’t mean that I am full of complexes and that I suffer. I have the right amount of self-confidence and I have a partner who repeats me 10 times the day that I am the most beautiful woman in the world! Nothing better to feel like Miss Universe!

I did that sketch of me some months ago. Ink, water colour, and computer manipulation. Mousy is a product of my imagination… I was alone at home, my Kevin was gigging in the UK and I needed some company…

But do you know what? In honour of this new blog, I will make a series of self-portraits! Perhaps I don’t even need to put myself in front of a mirror for that… many painters do it that way!

  2. Hey, Miki, I’m around visiting and like it very much. Do you have a cat? I love cats.
Write on the corner of your mirror with lipstick something like “Hello, sexy!” or “Hola, guapíssima!”. I have it on my bathroom mirror and on a note in my fridge :) .
Then you’ll always smile whenever you look in the mirror and not focus in the details we don’t like.
Most of them are noticed only by ourselves I’m pretty sure :) .
    Hugs

  3. Hi, Mimulus, great to see you here! I am very pleased about that…
No, I don’t have a cat… I had one when I am very very small, a black one, which I called caramel, because he loved sweeties.. he was a beauty!
Actually I more love dogs, but unfortunately I can’t offer myself to have one with the gipsy life I have…
Great idea with the notes on the mirror and on the fridge! Unfortunately i don’t have lipstick :-)
I have a niece, she is like my daughter, and e years ago, she came to me in holidays (now she lives close to me) and when she went away she left little notes everywhere for me, on the fridge, on all the mirrors, under my pillow… kind of “You are the most beautiful±” and “I love you so much!”… it was so sweet! These notes are still sticking there, 2 years later!
    Abracos!

  4. Miki, how come you don’t have a lipstick?
I’m not very much into make up also. I prefer treating my skin and make it look better when au naturel. But I wear maskara and lipstick. Little things that make a big difference.

There are 6 cats at my mother’s. I love them. One of them “speaks” on the phone with me. I’m pretty sure she knows it’s me, her human sister :) . Her name is Dete.
    I love dogs to.

It’s good to find notes like that, huh? Even when you wrote them yourself :) like mine.

  5. Yes, Mimulus, I really don’t have a lipstick, I never had!!!!
I laughed a lot as I read that you can’t believe that!!!
I am not at all into make-up, but I use mascara, this is the only thing… concerning lipstick, I simply don’t like at all to feel it on my lips!

And you are right, little things help1 But I have noticed that other kind of little things help even better: an open and smiling face, this is really 100 times more attractive than any make-up!

But well, it is a little bit a vicious circle, because it is not always easy to smile when you think you ugly… but don’t worry, I feel ok within myself.. it is just, if I could retouch myself, I would do it at once…

Mimulus, would you please take now a little piece of paper, if possible a pink paper, write on it:
“Mimulus, You are a wonderful person – Miki”
and stick it somewhere in your house, where you can see it often?

Beautiful the story of the phoning cat Dete… and funny, because I do the same with my parents’ dog, Maya! I call her through the phone, and she always answer, many different “ouah ouahs”. I don’t understand the details of our conversation, but no doubts, she speaks love to me!!

  6. Hello, Miki! Sure I agree with you that a smile is thousands better than any make up. Do the way you feel better. I never like make up that will change what I really am.
I’m not the kind that buys a lot of shoes and clothes either. Shoes I only buy when I really need them. And I never care about the last tendencies. I have my style.
Put a note on your fridge too: “Miki, you’re a unique person! ”
I hope everything is doing fine for you and Kevin in the new place.

  7. Mimulus – I totally identify with the Lao-Tzu quote. To hurry along your arrival at your destination is to wish away your life, and devalue all that you encounter along the way. Thanks for your good wishes to Miki and I.

  8. Hello, Kevin! It’s my favorite quote that one. I’m glad that you like it too.
