The Art of Doing Nothing #1
Where I live (South of Spain) it is an Art in which 90% of the population excel!
There are 1000 ways of doing nothing here, but most of the time, you can be sure that a glass of beer or sangria is involved!

Yes, the art of doing ‘nothing’ is the very salt and essence of life. Worth pondering point here. Thanks.

But for me the very salt and essence of life is, on the contrary, “movement”. There are many theories about life, but I can’t imagine the development of life without movement. Even in the word development is movement implicitly involved, isn’t it?
Doing Nothing is for me total lack of movement… nothing for me, but of course I accept that other people enjoy it! And as a sketcher, I must say: the less the people move, the easiest for me to catch them on my paper!
I find my best ideas come when I’m doing nothing. The mind is relaxed and ideas just pop out of my subconscious.

I guess the ideas you get doing nothing must be pretty good to have become Master of the Universe!
My brain works differently: exactly when I do many exciting things loads of great ideas pop out of my mind, according to the principle of association chains…
Oh how I love the thought of doing nothing. It seems so evolved. However. . .you and I Miki, not for us. I find it interesting that you have surrounded yourself with people doing little to nothing in this town while you and Kev are busy as little bees all the time! A perfect balance I guess.
Well, the question is finally answered. many of you out there thought Elvis was stacking shelves in Wal-Mart, others thought he’d got ajob working down your local chip-shop.But now, thanks to Miki’s sketches, we have proof positive that the King of Rock and Roll is busy doing nothing drinking beer on Mojacar playa. Elvis vivir!
Miki, I may be wise, but you are wiser there, when you say, ‘And as a sketcher, I must say: the less the people move, the easiest for me to catch them on my paper’!
But somewhere I heard and sensed that doing nothing is the highest action of its kind. Hope I am not confused, nor confusing. Doing nothing is not a small act.
I remember a good old story frequently told in the so called spiritual circles:
Children are playing on the sands there. With great joy and sweating they build a multistorey building out of wet sands there. They gaurd it with utmost devotion and pride. Suddenly, the Moms of the children call them to come back. The sweet call of the Mother is enough, the children smash out their creation of that sand building flat, and run fast to enter into the cradles of their Mother. So is our life and actions and adventures on this earth. Oneday we smash it all and enter into our own unknown abode. Love!

This is a wonderful story which you tell me, I love the symbolic of it… I kind of recognise myself in these children, with the difference that my Sweet Mother is Life, and when she calls me,I come at once, without waiting one second… but I don’t smash out the sans building, I leave it there, and go and run and build another one on another beach, bigger and crazier… until Mother Life calls again…
I simply hope other children (or adults) will find a use for the buildings I leave behind me… but of course, if everybody would act like me, the world would be full of abandoned sand castles and I guess it would be awful!
I am not saying here that one has to live this way… this is just the way I am… I am happy this way, but I really can imagine other people being happy other ways…
And doing nothing… yes, one might call it “The highest action”, and yes it might be a BIG act… it is just not for me… I love movement, I love action (different from act).
And there is a big difference too between doing nothing while one chooses to do nothing, or doing nothing why one has nothing to do…
